Our first day in Rome was kicked off on the bank of the Tiber River near where this city had its beginnings at about 1000 BC. Up river was St. Peter's Dome towering over the powerful Vatican City. Down river was an island were medicine has been practiced since Roman times at the Temple of Asclepius, the god of medicine. Now it is a public Hospital specializing in childbirth. In Trastevere we toured the Church of Santa Cecilia, patron saint for musicians. Tradition says that the Church was built in the 3rd century over the spot where Saint Cecilia's house was.
